Soon Ernest Hemingwayâs essays found their place next to Trout Unlimited magazines by my bed. I caught that 10-inch fryling five years ago on Fall Creek using a $5 fly rod given to me by my neighbor Gil. During middle school and high school, my enthusiasm for music and performing accelerated in tandem with my talent. In addition to pursuing instrumental music, I began singing in theatre and in an a cappella group. Eerily similar to the college application process, there were many qualified donor applicants. Choosing one donor from the pool of applicants was an insurmountable task for my mom until she realized there was an essay buried in the back of each profile. After reading my donorâs essay, she chose him because he spoke so eloquently about his passion for music and the arts. I quickly learned to play the clarinet and joined the elementary school band. As soon as I was physically big enough to carry around a mini Fender electric guitar, I begged to take guitar lessons. Perhaps it was subconscious at the time, but while many of my elementary school friends were playing sports with their dads, I was looking for a way to connect to my donor through music. The writing sample you submit will be considered in both the admission and competitive scholarship selection process. Be sure to include your full name on each page of your submission. When I was in second grade, I read the essay for the first time and learned the donor was a professional musician and an accomplished guitar player. This knowledge was the catalyst for me to begin exploring my own musical abilities. Tell the admissions officer something they can't learn about you from the other paperwork you've filled out. Undergraduate Admission Essay
Undergraduate Admission Essay Itâs meant to be a deeper dive into who you are beyond the numbers and accolades. As we mentioned earlier, you donât know who is reading your essay or how they feel about these subjects. Itâs best not to offend them or make them feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, applicants write about obstacles theyâve overcome or illicit/illegal topics including arrest, sexual experiences, drugs, and alcohol. In a few cases, these topics have been addressed effectively. I think that since teachers donât give page assignments but only word count assignments, itâs difficult to imagine how many pages that will be. Why is everything word count these days instead of page count? When I was in school when I was younger, all assignments were page count. Many authors use word count as a motivational tool. To help them from getting stuck and editing each sentence over and over again as they write, they choose a minimum number of words they want to write each day. If youâre a writer, shouldnât writing well be the most important thing? Why do writers seem to obsess over word count and page count? There are instances when youâre given an assignment, not by word count, but assigned by the number of pages. Reading your essay with fresh eyes will help you be more objective about your writing. Large, public state university systems often use a mathematical formula based on a student's grade point average and scores on the SAT or ACT. It's important to cite your sources with accuracy and clarity. Follow these guidelines on how to use quotes in essays and speeches. Start by writing the thesis statement at the top, and then write a topic sentence for each paragraph below that. These words may not be perfect and will likely need to be heavily edited, but it gets the ideas down and keeps them from getting stuck on one area of their book. It works well for me, but I know others who donât do well with it. But for the most part, itâs better to avoid subjects that could reflect poorly on your judgment and morals. After all, you donât want colleges to think youâre someone theyâd rather not have on campus. Ask them whether or not they learned those things from your essay. You shouldnât stumble over words or phrases when you read your essay out loud. For example, âWrite a paper four pages long.â If you get an assignment to write four pages, one of the first questions that will likely come to mind is, âHow many words are in four pages? â If you need to figure out words per page, you can use a words per page calculator. The essay is supposed to reveal information that you havenât had a chance to discuss elsewhere in the application. I think it depends a lot on your personality, but forcing myself to be consistent day in and day out helps me get my books done. Without a daily word count, I would never complete them. Can someone explain to me why so many people are obsessed with word count and page count? itâs time consuming, but any other estimate is bound not to be accurate since itâs so dependent on your handwriting. I have a writing assignment in school, and it is always helpful to know how many pages I will need. This means you should know exactly what each of your paragraphs is going to be about before you write them. Your thesis statement is the main point of your essay. It is essentially one sentence that says what the essay is about. You should usually state your thesis in your introductory paragraph. Keep your research organized so it will be easy for you to refer back to.

Application Essays
Application Essays I swear I could almost see the curvature of the Earth, two million people all in my field of view. UT has extensive study abroad and language programs, and they develop well how UT offers resources not accessible at any other public university. They demonstrate how their current studies and travels abroad inform them that although they want to change universities, they want to continue majoring in Anthropology. My passion with linguistic anthropology began when I was nine years old when my parents took me on my first international trip. We traveled throughout Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, Sicilia, and Croatia. Iâm the go-to person in my friend group when relationships end or problems happen at school, and I am used to handling family crises at home. I want to help solve problems on behalf of companies, and I feel that public relations is my perfect fit. Interested in building your best transfer application? Complete my questionnaire for a free consultation. Despite their below average GPA, thereâs no doubt they gained admission on the strength of this Essay A that helped connect their expanded resume and Essay E about growing up in a mixed-religions household. I began by building a website and managing their nascent social media channels. I started producing a weekly documentary series following their progress during the season. I divided responsibilities and maintained our daily schedule to keep our workflow moving smoothly. Some might write this off as merely doing work for a High School team, but I disagree. I refused to settle into the mediocre routines around me and merely coast along with strong, yet hollow grades. The more I considered and explored my academic goals and future, the clearer it became that only the University of Texas offers the rigor and challenge that I seek. Throughout, they argue convincingly that they know where they want to go, how they bring diverse perspectives to campus, and why UT is their best fit university. They cover a lot of territory discussing being raised in two different countries and attending three different schools with radically different environments before transitioning back to Texas and attending HCC. Itâs a well-written response that no doubt helped their reviewer form a mental image of the student. Everyone can relate to the nervousness of being out of their element and receiving pleasant surprising news when they were otherwise doubtful. I like this essay a lot because it shares a compelling story that frames where theyâve come from academically and professionally, where they currently are, and how UT can help them achieve their goals. They also discussed why they enrolled at the University of Houston, their home city, rather than pursuing UT-Austinâs Coordinated Admissions Program. I stepped into the panoramic atrium offering a birds-eye view of Houston, the Sky Lobby. My survival and quality of life depends on resolving conflicts for work, for my internship, and for relaying messages within a divided family. Recognizing my strength, I feel that public relations would be the perfect major for me. I considered my strengths, and now I understand that I love communicating with people and solving problems. I worked thirty to forty hours each week while taking a full course load. I learned to communicate effectively at an early age. No matter what situation my family was going through, my sisters and other relatives considered my opinions and often put my suggestions into practice. Despite living in Houston for my entire life, I could never have imagined the city so beautiful. I absorbed the scenes below â" the bustling traffic, the diverging currents of the bayou snaking in the distance, and the impersonal skyscrapers dotting the vista, silently taunting our unrestricted zoning laws. With each country, there was an entire new method of communication, an entirely new way of life. I had not considered that a university experience could be both academically enriching and spiritually fulfilling. My fascination and excitement was furthered with the University of Texas when I researched the Anthropology Department. I functioned as the liaison between policy owners and J&J, including those in non-English speaking countries, who were operating in different time zone. Working cross-culturally can be a challenge, but I learned quickly. I stayed organized and met intense deadlines assigned to my team by the Vice President of Global HR Services. I was amazed at the neverâ"ending opportunities for research. As time wore on, I concluded I was not finding the challenges I originally sought.
